The Video Platform Provides Viewers Power to Reduce Artificial Intelligence-Made Content in Their Feeds

The platform is rolling out a new feature that allows them to reduce the amount of AI-made media appearing in their streams. This initiative comes as the company announced that it presently contains more than 1 thousand million AI-generated clips.

Testing and Rollout

The update is undergoing trials over the coming weeks before a full-scale rollout. This development comes amid a rise in content created by AI, driven by emerging video-generation tools.

AI Proliferation Online

Studies have shown that almost one in 10 of the quickest rising content creators on a popular video site exclusively feature AI-generated videos. A large amount of this content is deemed mass-produced AI material, a phrase for substandard, bulk-generated content that is typically absurd or bizarre.

“We know from our community that many people appreciate content made with AI tools, including AI artwork to science explainers, and we intend to give people the power to adjust the amount of that, according to their own likes,” said a platform representative.

Scale of AI Content

The platform disclosed that there are currently over a billion videos on its service identified as made with AI. Collectively, in excess of 100 m media items are uploaded to the platform every day, making AI-generated material a minor percentage of its overall inventory.

Customizing Your Feed

Members will be in a position to reduce or increase the volume of AI-generated videos they see by opening the content preference feature in the application and choosing AI-made media. Other topics that can already be modified under the tool encompass news, clothing, aesthetics, and dance.

Platform Guidelines

Its policies mandate users to identify “realistic” artificially created content, and it prohibits harmful deepfakes of public figures or crisis events. Any believable AI video that is not labeled can be deleted under its user guidelines.

Additionally, the platform will now apply an AI-generated tag to content made using its own AI tools, or identified by an cross-platform project for spotting AI-generated material. This action is aimed to deter users from trying to evade the disclosure requirement.

Responsible AI Funding

The company is also establishing a $2m AI literacy fund for professionals and institutions to produce learning resources about responsible artificial intelligence. This program will support non-profit groups dedicated to training coding and technology.

Content Safety Approach

TikTok has justified its safety measures, following controversy over proposals to make redundant numerous review team members in Britain. The company is set to cut a significant number of roles in its content moderation department in London, with worker representatives and digital protection specialists voicing alarm that staff are being displaced by automated systems.

A trust and safety lead clarified that people-led review would continue to be important, but artificial intelligence can protect employees by eliminating the most graphic content prior to it gets reviewed by humans. The platform stated a 76% decrease in explicit and harmful content handled by human moderators over the previous year due to intervention by its automated systems.

We believe it is crucial to integrate humans and technology to ensure user safety,” she said. “We’ll have humans as integral to the approach, but we also think it’s very important to minimize viewing of unsafe media as quickly as possible, which is where a significant AI assistance is really helping us work at speed.”
